2012 does not necessarily represent the end of the world, although it does indicate the end of a 5,125 year cycle, in which there have been five cycles so far. Five generations have experienced a shift of world ages, we are now entering into the sixth. This is also a time in which there will be predictable events that are possible based on the previous five cycles.
The Mayans predicted the present world ends at a specific time, with a specific event, on a day that was marked on a calendar over 2,000 years ago. The Mayans' belief is demonstrated in their monuments which were built to last until the end of time. In translating the Mayan calendar into our own system of time it shows our present world age ending with the winter solstice. This would take place on December 21, 2012.
What Does It Mean?
Each time a cycle appears it repeats the general conditions that make something possible, rather than a precise outcome. Just as the conditions in Earth's atmosphere can create the perfect environment for a tornado without ever actually forming one.
Understanding cyclic behavior can indicate the possibility of events occurring in a given cycle of time. These cycles may have shown to have been primed for war, suffering, and chaos, as much as it is able to predict when a cycle may be ripe for peace, success and stability. Because the rhythms and patterns of nature (fractal time) indicate precisely when you can expect cycles of the past to repeat, they can also give you hints as to when would be the best time to change any hurtful and destructive patterns.
